Starting from scratch
Getting a new website up and running is exciting.
But it can also be daunting. There’s so much technical jargon and misinformation floating around, it can be difficult to know what’s right and what’s wrong.
That’s where we come in.
Canary Dwarf offer an honest, no-nonsense, jargon-free approach to web development. We take care to ensure it doesn’t turn out to be a vanity purchase, ie, it looks nice but doesn’t actually do much for your business.
We make sure you get a website which complements your business strategy and works for you.
What is your website for?
When you come to us, the first question we will ask you is “What do you want your website to achieve?” We want to establish very early on that our service is about measurement and providing quantifiable returns. Without knowing what the website is for, we can’t build anything for you.
Your goal may be to increase sales, attract new customers, service existing customers, break into new markets, etc. There are hundreds of reasons for having a website, and sometimes new customers think they need a website for the wrong reasons.
Who are your users?
The next question we will ask is “Who are your users?” We never forget that the website is there to service users, not the client, and neither should you.
What your users do on your website will form the focus of how we develop your site. We often design ‘routes’ through your site to achieve goals such as sales, newsletter subscriptions, enquiries, etc.
What happens next?
After discussing your budget, we build a ’strategy’ and a workflow. We agree a ‘go live’ date and explain what we need from you. On large projects, we will schedule in meetings so that the project can be discussed and any issues raised by either party.
We will deliver the website on a stable server ready to go live and provide any training necessary, for example you might have a CMS (content management system) to add, edit and delete content.
What happens after ‘go live’?
Your website will be designed to work for your business. It’s not something that should be left to work on its own. You’ll need to market it, add content, etc, and we’ll give you advice and help.
Depending on how you want to manage your content, you might want us to take a hands-on role and maintain it for you. This can be adding content, analysing traffic, linking to social networks etc.
Our priority is to ensure that you understand what your website can do for your business, so we are more than happy to help you keep your web strategy on course.
